Towards the end of my life in London I was going to a lot of Open Mics, soul sapping energy draining experiences. You’d go early, sign up and endure an endless stream of whatevers before getting to do your thing, near the end, when what crowd there was has been left depleted, the alphas’ you’d spotted and wanted to impress, gone. Why was I even doing this? Couldn’t I just get a life? At my age? It's a midlife crisis, I’m sure more sober heads would say.
Antisocial Media came out of all that frustration, I guess. I performed it once in a pub opposite Manor House tube station, Green Lanes N4. It got a cheer.
Years later, when I went to record my words for this collection I found myself with extra paid-for studio time.
Well there’s only so much you can do in an hour. But I’d come prepared, as Martin had advised, and I threw this and
several other pieces onto the tape, not thinking too much of it. A scrap of nothing, and my buddy uses it to show us all what a scary, dark Mofo of a talent he is.
I find this track frightening, really, but then I’m on social media myself...
